After a recent visit to watch waves in Westport I stopped at the Grays Harbor Light and was so drawn to her beautiful colors and lines. Washington's tallest lighthouse at 107 feet tall was completed in 1898, serving as a navigational beacon to the Grays Harbor entrance ever since.
While sailing the coast of Mexico lighthouses were a prominent navigational aid, and seeing them while night sailing was profoundly monumental in developing my love for these towers. Although not as relevant for maritime navigation as they once were, their design is still breathtaking.
The Grays Harbor light, located on a hill among the coastal pines, has beautiful soft weathered colors and a powerful presence.
